This tall fuzzy, green character showed up at Westward Elementary in West Palm Beach Thursday. He may look like the Grinch’s cheekier brother with a sunnier disposition, but they let him on campus anyway because what’s a pep rally without a mascot?
His name is Orbit and he’s the Houston Astros mascot, a transplant to the area who came with the new Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
Thursday, Orbit made the rounds in the county, stopping at the County Commission offices to thank them for building the spring training home for the Astros and the Washington Nationals. The two teams will play each other next week and the home opening of the ballpark.
Then Orbit headed to Westward to handout backpacks and gifts. He also planned to get in a little golf – or at least stop for a visit at the Honda Classic at PGA National Resort and Spa.
