Embattled Palm Beach Lakes High School Principal Cheryl McKeever has been transferred from the school after a year of acrimonious battles between her and many of the school’s teachers.

Dave Alfonso, a school district administrator, has been named the school’s new principal, school district officials said. McKeever, meanwhile, will move into a position as a “principal on special assignment” in the school district’s research and evaluation department.

Teachers were told of the change in a meeting at the school this morning, the official last day of classes. Parents were expected to be officially notified later this afternoon.

The move was widely expected. Alfonso’s appointment had been rumored for weeks, and the school district appeared to hint at an imminent shakeup last month, saying that “there will be some decisions made (at the school) over the course of the next few weeks.”
