Mike Murgio traveled to New York this morning for his court hearing.

An October trial date has been set for former Palm Beach County School Board member Mike Murgio, who resigned last month after being indicted on federal bribery charges, his attorney said.

A Oct. 31 trial date was set for Murgio, his son and two alleged co-conspirators at a court hearing today in New York City, attorney Stuart Kaplan told The Palm Beach Post.

Kaplan said that “at this point we are preparing for trial,” and that Murgio’s attorneys would conduct their own investigation into the allegations that Murgio and his son conspired to hide the operations of an illegal money-transfer business by bribing a New Jersey bank official.

“We are expecting a voluminous amount of discovery to be turned over to us in the next three weeks,” Kaplan said, “and we will start our own investigation into the allegations and move forward accordingly.”

This morning, a TV news crew caught Murgio at Palm Beach International Airport preparing to board a flight to New York for his court hearing.
