A Palm Beach County school bus driver is facing termination after allegedly leaving a student on a bus last fall.

Officials say they were alerted in October that a student was found on driver Patrick Dorcent’s bus while the bus was being refueled at a school district bus compound.

Dorcent, 55, a school district employee since 2014, admitted that he did not see the student board his bus and ended his route before reaching the student’s stop, according to a school district memo.

Dorcent said he called out to the back of the bus before getting off but never did a visual check as required, the report said.

We’ve asked the school district when the incident happened and whether the student was injured. We’ll update when we hear back.

Schools Superintendent Robert Avossa has recommended that Dorcent be fired. The school board is expected to consider the recommendation on Wednesday.
